IDF forces stationed in northern Golan Heights killed two Hezbollah operatives early Wednesday morning who were attempting to plant explosives on the Israel-Syria border.

According to the IDF Spokesperson’s office, the men approached the border fence in the middle of the night and tried to blow up the border fence. IDF soldiers opened fire on the terrorists, using light weapons and later, firing artillery shells. Direct hits were confirmed.

The IDF identified the Hezbollah militants as belonging to a Lebanese Shi’ite terrorist organization that is closely affiliated with Hezbollah.

“Earlier today, two Hezbollah-affiliated terrorists were identified attempting to plant an explosive device near the Israel-Syria border in the northern Golan Heights. The IDF forces…fired towards the suspects and hits were idenitifed,” the IDF stated.

Wednesday’s attack is the second in recent attacks from Hezbollah aimed at Israel. Recently, two rockets were fired from Syria at Mt. Hermon in what the IDF believes was a revenge attack from Hezbollah.

The IDF is on high alert after Hezbollah issued a warning to Israel that it would seek vengeance for an airstrike that the IAF reportedly carried out last week in Lebanon. It is believed that IAF fighter jets destroyed a weapons transfer on its way from Syria into Lebanon, as well as killing Hezbollah operatives who were present during the strike.

Hezbollah threatened that it would strike at “the appropriate time, place and means.”
