Hamas has confirmed that one of its own was killed in a bomb making workshop in the Gaza Strip on Saturday. Six others were seriously injured in the explosion.

Ibrahem al-Ghoul, the man killed, was a field commander in the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the armed military wing of Hamas. The bomb-making course took place at a house near the Egyptian border, in the southern Gaza town of Rafah.

According to a statement from the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, “The explosion occurred during a training session in bomb-making.”

Hamas is referring to the incident as an “internal explosion” and have dubbed the death of al-Ghoul as a “work accident.”

The death of al-Ghoul via the means of bomb making gone wrong further exemplifies Hamas’s efforts to wreak terror and havoc on Israel. Recently, the Israeli Navy intercepted a covert arms shipment from Iran to the Gaza Strip containing highly advanced weaponry.

Among the vast arms cache, Hamas was attempting to possess the M302 missile which would have expanded Hamas’s reach into Israel territory exponentially.

Hamas officials denied any involvement and referred to the whole incident as a “silly joke.”

Taher Al-Nono, an advisor to Hamas Prime Minister Imail Haniyeh, said, “This is a new Israeli lie aimed to justify and prolong the blockade of Gaza.”
