Israeli security forces announced Saturday night that it had thwarted a terrorist attack that was to take place in the settlement of Ma’ale Adumim in Judea and Samaria.

On Friday, a Palestinian man was apprehended as he was preparing to carry out a stabbing attack. Police received reports from residents of a suspicious looking man, who they described as possibly drunk, standing near the town entrance.

When police began questioning the suspect, he appeared extremely nervous and evaded answering their questions. Upon searching the man, police found that he was carrying a 30 cm (12 inch) long knife.

Under interrogation, the man, a 34-year-old resident of Abu Dis, told police that he had planned on stabbing someone in the town.

Superintendant Rafi Cohen, police station commander in Ma’ale Adumim, said that the prevention of a possibly deadly terrorist attack was due to the vigilance of local security guards and the quick action of Israeli police.

Last week, Israeli security forces arrested six terror suspects in Jerusalem with connections to Hamas and Islamic Jihad. Five men and one woman were found to be operating a law firm out of East Jerusalem that was secretly funneling money for terrorist organizations and communicating messages between imprisoned terrorists and their confidants on the outside.

The terrorist lawyers are being charged with supporting terrorist activities, including membership in a terrorist organization, conspiring to commit a crime, and contact with foreign agents.
