An IDF soldier was wounded Friday morning as terrorists launched an explosive at soldiers stationed in Nablus. The explosive went off near a group of Nahal Brigade soldiers on duty in the area.

The injured soldier was immediately evacuated to a nearby hospital for treatment after being hit by shrapnel from an improvised grenade, Israel Radio reported.

IDF officials confirmed that the attack occurred as the soldiers were conducting a covert operation to uncover illegal weapons in Nablus. Nablus, also known as Shechem, has always been a hotbed of terrorist activity in Judea and Samaria. The soldiers uncovered a stash of knives, two guns and hundreds of bullets.

When news of the operation spread and the presence of the soldiers became known, violent unrest quickly spread through the streets of Nablus. The IDF reported that locals threw stones and IDF soldiers and set tires ablaze during the riots.

Three Palestinian suspects have already been arrested by Israeli security services. One of the suspects came from the Safa village near Ramallah and two others from the Nablus vicinity – one from Tabus and one from Tammun.

On Thursday, terrorists from the Gaza Strip launched a Kassam rocket towards Israel. The rocket exploded in open territory in the Eshkol Regional Council area. No injuries or damage was reported from the missile.

The red alert siren was not sounded prior to the explosion. An IDF spokesperson reported that since the beginning of the year, over 100 missiles have been launched at Israel by terrorists in Gaza.
