Analysis: Turning Palestinian Terrorists into “Heroes”

Since the advent of modern Palestinian terror, the Palestinian people and its media have venerated murderers and terrorists, praising some to the point of making them into cultural heroes.

According to a recent report issued by the Israeli government, photographs are continually posted on social media pages related to Palestinian Authority leaders glorifying terror attacks against Israel.

In one such instance, the Facebook page of PA President Mahmoud Abbas, the leader of the Fatah party, “serves as a regular platform for the glorification of those who have perpetrated large-scale terrorist attacks against Israel as part of the PA’s systematic campaign of incitement, by various means and through various bodies, against Israel.”

Four recent photographs that were posted to the page praise terrorists for the efforts to kill Israelis, since the 1970’s and onwards.

In the first image, Palestinians celebrate the escalation of violence from stones to automatic rifles, with a caption that says, “We started with stones, we will end with a state.”

A second picture shows one of the terrorists who participated in the March 1975 terrorist attack on the Savoy Hotel in Tel Aviv, in which 11 Israelis were murdered. The caption praises the terrorist.

A third photograph shows Ra’ed Carmi, a Fatah arch murderer from the Second Intifada, who was directly responsible for deaths of 165 Israelis and the wounding of over 1,800 others. This photo was posted on the day of the anniversary of his death, taking pride in his accomplishment.

Other recent images that have been circulated around Palestinian media, primarily by Hamas, celebrate the recent stabbing attack which injured 17 Israelis last week.

This type of campaign is nothing new. Over the last few months, when vehicular manslaughter of innocent Israelis was all the rage amongst Palestinian terrorists, Arab media posted pictures and ran publicity campaigns supporting terrorists who would use their cars as weapons to kill Israelis.

However, it is important to recognize that Palestinian terror attacks and the media that supported them began long before the Six-Day-War and the reclamation of Judea and Samaria. Fedayeen (local Arab) attacks against Jews for nationalist and religious reasons were carried out even before the State of Israel was born, commencing in 1921, and having never ceased since that time.

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which has a partial list of major Arab terror attacks that took place before the Six-Day-War, stated: “Arab terrorism was rampant during wave of anti-Jewish riots in 1920-21 (which was characterized by the brutal murder in Jaffa of the prominent Jewish author Y. Brenner), during the ‘Disturbances’ of 1929 (which included the massacre of the Jewish community in Hebron), during the Arab Revolt of 1936-39, and in many other recorded incidents of wholesale anti-Jewish Arab violence throughout the pre-state period.”

Palestinians continue to try and spin the excuse that murdering Jews in Israel is acceptable since they continue to live and build in Judea and Samaria. However, the truth is that Palestinian and Arab terror against Israel has existed even before the PLO came into existence, and certainly before the idea that a group of Arabs named “Palestinian” existed either.

What the Palestinian people really aim for is a total destruction of the land of Israel, the State of Israel, and the people of Israel. As they continue to carry out their 93-year-old program of killing Israelis, the Palestinians can pretend all they want that they are the victims.
