Taking the Bait, Netanyahu Responds to Obama with Nuclear Deal Alternative

Responding directly to US President Barack Obama’s claims that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has offered no alternative to the current nuclear deal with Iran, the prime minister offered on Sunday two key alternative means by which to form a better deal with Iran.

When asked by media at the Summit of the America’s conference in Panama City this past week his thoughts on Netanyahu’s objection to the deal, Obama stated, “The prime minister of Israel is deeply opposed to it, I think he’s made that very clear.”

“I have repeatedly asked – what is the alternative that you present that you think makes it less likely for Iran to get a nuclear weapon? And I have yet to obtain a good answer on that,” he added.

In a short video statement directed at the president, Netanyahu makes clear his alternative solution and calls on the international community to open their eyes to Iranian aggression around the world.

“Let me reiterate again the two main components of the alternative to this bad deal: First, instead of allowing Iran to preserve and develop its nuclear capabilities, a better deal would significantly roll back these capabilities – for example, by shutting down the illicit underground facilities that Iran concealed for years from the international community,” Netanyahu said.

“Second, instead of lifting the restrictions on Iran’s nuclear facilities and program at a fixed date, a better deal would link the lifting of these restrictions to an end of Iran’s aggression in the region, its worldwide terrorism and its threats to annihilate Israel.”

Netanyahu’s statement echo previous warning made by the prime minister made earlier on Saturday.

The prime minister slammed the “not serious” inspections of Iran’s nuclear sites and sounded convinced that Western powers will lift sanctions as soon as the deal is signed, rather than in phases as the US has stated.

“We see that the sanctions are being lifted, immediately, according to Iran’s demand, and this is without Iran having changed its policy of aggression elsewhere,” Netanyahu said in a statement.

“To my regret, all of the things I warned about vis-à-vis the framework agreement that was put together in Lausanne are coming true before our eyes. This framework gives the leading terrorist state in the world a certain path to nuclear bombs, which would threaten Israel, the Middle East and the entire world.”

Netanyahu slammed the current nuclear deal being negotiated between Iran and the P5+1 and the preservation of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.

“We see that Iran is being left with significant nuclear capabilities; it is not dismantling them, it is preserving them. We also see that the inspections is not serious. How can such a country be trusted?! As of now there is no real monitoring,” he said.
