The Best Response to Terrorism

After a string of terror attacks in the past week, which, as is often the case, disproportionately afflicted the residents of Samaria, the question must be asked – What is the government of Israel planning to do about it?

We remember well the visits of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu before the 2015 elections, when he suddenly became Mr. Settlement, as he appealed for votes from the Religious Zionist public. However, elections pass quickly and so does a person’s memory. The two separate terrorist murders that sent shockwaves through Samaria this week were inregions that have not benefitted from the very limited building that was allowed under the previous government in Judea and Samaria. Most of the building projects were in the few cities that are very close to the western edge of Samaria and Judea, while the many  idealistic communities that have taken on the great challenge of settling the heartland of Israel were totally  ignored.

Now is the time to put those campaign promises to the test. The best response to terrorism is building. For every terrorist attack in or near Shiloh, a new neighborhood in Shiloh! For every resident of Kochav HaShachar murdered,  a new neighborhood in Kochav HaShachar!

That is how a proud people should respond to hatred – with love – love for the Land of Israel. Populating the Land of Israel with the People of Israel is the most suitable ex‎pression of that love. Some may say that allowing building in our entire country shouldn’t be only a response to terrorism. However, it is certainly a fitting response. The purpose of terrorism is to kill innocent civilians. The secondary purpose is to terrorize, hence, frighten us, so that we’ll be afraid and run away. Our answer is that we will stay and grow and build for the future!

The next step is in the hands of our elected officials. Instead of complaining that their hands are tied, will they finally respond courageously, as true Israeli patriots?
