Legal Tyranny of the Left

Is the State of Israel being unjustly ruled by a left-wing self-perpetuating Supreme Court? This is the question that should be asked by lawmakers, after the Court ordered the destruction of residential apartment buildings inthe town of Beit El in Samaria, despite the fact that legal permits had already been issued for the buildings in question.

After the destruction, which was cheered on by amused “Palestinian” Arab spectators in the neighboring city of Ramallah, an enraged MK Moti Yogev (Jewish Home) strongly criticized the Court.  “Despite the valid zoning plan and the construction permit, the High Court ruled unjustly, in a way befitting charlatans. A D9 [bulldozer] shovel should be used against the High Court,” he added. “We, as a legislative system, will make sure to rein in the legalistic rule in this country, and the tail that wags the dog.”BIN-OpEd-Experts-300x250(1)

As could be expected, Yogev’s remarks, obviously metaphoric flair used for effect, and not intended to be taken literally, have aroused some harsh calls from the Left for his removal from the Knesset and even imprisonment. From the self-righteous agitators on the Left, who don’t believe in freedom of speech for those on the Right, such arrogant yelps of anger are the norm. What is more disturbing are the arrows aimed at Yogev by government officials like Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan (Likud), who warned that disrespecting the courts could lead to the breakdown of the rule of law and “anarchy.” Equally troubling is JewishHome leader Naftali Bennett’s unnecessary public comment that he “privately reprimanded” Yogev.

The main individuals who need “reprimanding”, and more, are the justices of the Supreme Court, who are ruling the country as dictators, as well as Israel’s political leadership that obediently adheres to such tyranny without changing the corrupt judge selection system that allows such abuse. The fact is that MK Yogev accurately expressed the frustration of a substantial amount of the Israeli population that is sick and tired of seeing its soldiers and police, paid from taxpayer funds, as tools for the destruction of Jewish communities in the heart of Israel. A Supreme Court that is not elected by the people, that even has serving justices on its own selection committee, is an anti-democratic body that does not represent the will of the people.

Such tyranny of the Supreme Court is totally unacceptable in a country that considers itself a part of the free world.
