Israeli jets struck a Hamas terror target in the northern Gaza Strip early Thursday morning in response to sniper fire directed at an Israeli town earlier Wednesday.

The army confirmed the IAF strike on a Hamas military base where the shooting is believed to have originated. A Hamas affiliated media outlet in Gaza reported Israeli helicopters fired two missiles.

The sniper fire apparently originated from a Hamas training camp. Stray bullets struck several Israeli home in Kibbutz Netiv Ha’asara, located alongside the Strip in the Hof Ashkelon region.

One of the bullets shattered the window of the home and struck a television while two children, aged 6 and 9, were watching. A second bullet hit the wall.

The mother of the children and a baby were also at home during the incident. No injuries were reported.

Hof Asheklon Mayor Yair Farjoun condemned the incident and called upon the government to provide added security for residents living along the Gaza border.

“We can no longer put up with a real threat to our lives,” he said. “I demand the government take immediate measures to eradicate all threats to the lives of the citizens of Israel. No more patience and routine emergencies.”

Thursday morning’s airstrike was the second such strike in the past week. Last Thursday, the IAF destroyed a Hamas weapons facility in the central Gaza Strip in response to a rocket attack.
