It would seem that even the Messiah can have false alarms. Such was the case on Tuesday when water came pouring out through the rocks of the Kotel (Western Wall). What some took as a miraculous precursor to the arrival of the Messiah turned out to be a burst pipe.

Water on the Temple Mount is mentioned in both Joel 3:18, “And a spring will go out from the house of the Lord to water the valley of Shittim”, and in Ezekiel 47, “…water was flowing from under the threshold of the house toward the east…And the water was flowing down from under, from the right side of the house, from south of the altar”. The prophecy in Ezekiel describes a pre-messianic outpouring of water all over Israel, focused on the Temple Mount.
Many took the sudden flow of water pouring out through the ancient stones as a miracle, a sure sign the Messiah was imminent. However, the Western Wall Heritage Foundation quickly announced that the water was from a burst pipe that ran adjacent to Wilson’s Arch, adjacent to the Western Wall.
This is not the first time such a leak has occurred. A few years ago, a similar leak near the Border Police Station at the Western Wall, caused by clogged pipes in the bathroom, prompted a similar reaction.
