Parts of Israel were hit with extreme winter weather conditions as snow fell in the north and flash flooding occurred in the south during a winter storm that affected the entire country over the weekend.

In the Golan Heights, several road closures – routes 91, 98, 958 and 959 – caused heavy traffic jams across the north. In the south, flash flooding closed sections of routes 90 and 234 near the Dead Sea.

Rainfall, which is expected to last through Monday evening, has led to the swelling of rivers and creeks in the north. The Sea of Galilee say a three-centimeter rise. The Jordan River, located along Israel’s eastern border, and the Yarkon River, which runs through Tel Aviv, have also seen dramatic a dramatic rise.

Residents of the Golan Heights woke up Saturday morning to heavy snowfall, with some lower parts of Mount Hermon seeing 45 centimeters of snow and up to 60 centimeters in the upper parts.

According to Walla! news, the large amount of snowfall has resulted in the closure of Mount Hermon, which is the site of the country’s only ski resort. Snow is expected to resume on Sunday night as temperatures drop to 25°F (-4°C).

Friday morning, snow fell in the Gush Etzion and Bethlehem areas of Judea, south of Jerusalem, as well as parts of the Galilee, including Safed and the Druze village of Majdal Shams.
