Congress has finally released the 28 pages missing from its inquiry into the 9-11 terror attacks, and as suspected, the redacted section dealt with the involvement of Saudi Arabian officials. But unfortunately, the much-anticipated report makes no shocking revelations, only emphasizes lessons that may need to be relearned.

The original report, released soon after attacks on September 11, 2001, dealt with failures in the American intelligence to detect and react to the threat. A glaring omission of a section in the appendix had many wondering what was left out. There was widespread speculation that the section was withheld because it presented proof of Saudi approval and support for Al Qaeda and its attack on America. Last Friday, their questions were answered, but there were no new surprises and no proof of Saudi collaboration.

The pages do reveal failures on the part of US intelligence agencies to make the connection between radical Islam and Saudi Arabia, a connection that has now been undeniably accepted as fact. The report credits this error in judgment to the fact that, at the time of the 9/11 attack, Saudi Arabia was considered a close American ally.

After the attack, the FBI and CIA both discovered solid connections between Saudi rulers and diplomats, and the 9/11 plot.  More specifically, the report revealed that Omar Al-Bayoumi, who was believed to be an agent of Saudi intelligence, in San Diego with two of the 9/11 hijackers. 15 of 19 hijackers in the 9/11 attacks were of Saudi origin.

The report also revealed that Al-Bayoumi had contacts with the Holy Land Foundation (HLF), a fundraising front for Palestinian Hamas.

The newly revealed pages also discussed possible connections between the Saudi royal family and the terror attack, as well as other Saudi Arabian friends and family of Osama Bin Laden. It is believed that money for the attack was transferred via the personal account of Prince Bandar’s wife, Princess Haifa. Complicity by the Saudi government is implied, when they refused to admit that 9/11 hijackers identified by their passports were present in Saudi records.

None of this is new information, nor will it lead to any action by the American government against any Saudi Arabian individuals or against the Saudi government. It merely serves to emphasize the connection between Wahabi Islam, to which almost all Saudi royalty belong, and terrorism.
