The Iron Dome Missile Defense system stopped two projectiles fired from Syria into the Golan Heights on Saturday afternoon. The first rocket was fired around 4 pm, with the second following about 90 minutes later. This marks the first time the system has been used in the Golan against Syrian fire. The IDF made a statement explaining that the projectiles were destroyed in the air with no resulting damage or injuries.

According to the IDF, the projectiles were errant fire, spillover from fighting in Syria.

This past week has seen increasing tensions in the north of Israel with eight cases of Syrian mortars crossing over into Israel. Israel retaliated with air strikes and on Tuesday, military forces belonging to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime fired two surface-to-air missiles at Israeli jets, claiming a direct hit on one of the jets. Israel denied this claim, saying no IAF planes were hit.
