Two police officers were hurt on Thursday when a car rammed through a police checkpoint on the road between Jerusalem and Maale Adumim, a Jewish city in Judea.

Police are investigating to determine if the attack was motivated by terror.

The incident occurred at the al-Za’im junction, where there is a military roadblock. The vehicle approached the checkpoint quickly from the direction of Jerusalem’s a-Tur neighborhood, traveling against traffic, said police officials.

When the driver saw the roadblock, instead of slowing, he sped up and slammed into a police cruiser and then a Border Police officer’s jeep.

The car then sped away. Police are currently searching the area for the vehicle and its driver.

Two Israeli police officers were lightly injured in the ramming. Both were treated by Magen David Adom paramedics on the scene before being evacuated to Jerusalem’s Hadassah University Medical Center in good condition.

Car rammings have been used frequently by Palestinians terrorists throughout the terror wave in Israel which began last October. While the violence seemed to be trending downwards in recent months, terror attacks have been on the rise in the past few weeks, with Jerusalem on high alert after a shooting attack on Monday left two dead.
