Islamic Messianic Dreams Shattered as ISIS Defeated in Dabiq

As ISIS-held Dabiq in Northern Syria fell to rebel forces on Sunday, the Islamic prophesy of Messiah in which all the infidels either convert to Islam or die,  what they call Mahdi, seems to have slipped away.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu announced on Sunday that Dabiq was fully under control of Turkish-backed Syrian rebels. The Islamic State(ISIS) reinforced the small city with over 1,200 fighters, carpeting the surrounding area with mines and Improvised Explosive Devices (IED). Approximately 2,000 rebel fighters, supported by Turkish tanks and infantry, and US-led coalition air-support, faced off against the terrorists.

Ahmed Osman, the commander of the Sultan Murad rebel group, told Reuters news agency that the group had also recaptured the nearby village of Soran.

“The Daesh [ISIS] myth of their great battle in Dabiq is finished,” Ahmed Osman, the head of the Sultan Murad group, told Reuters.

A small desert town, Dabiq holds little strategic importance, but it has enormous spiritual significance for the Islamic State (ISIS), and has become a battle-cry for radical Islam.
