Flying the PA Flag in the Knesset: A Banner of Disrespect

Rabbi Abraham Isaac Kook, the 20th century pioneer of Religious Zionism, once shared his very unique view of the meaning of flags and what they represent. Flags, whether physically or not, according to Rabbi Kook, bear an insignia indicating the mission of those who carry it. He likens it to a uniform, military or otherwise, where the colors and symbols worn designate who you are and what you live for.

In a meeting of the Knesset Caucus on Ending Israeli-Palestinian Conflict at the Knesset last Wednesday a decision was made by someone in the Israeli government to hang the Palestinian Authority flag alongside the Israeli flag behind the dais of the meeting room. This was the first time since July of 1999 that the flag of the Palestinian Authority was hung in the Israeli parliament.

Flags are all about respect. Many countries practice the symbolic lowering of the flag to half-mass on days of sorrow and no one takes the flag as seriously as the United States, which has very strict rules as to flags hanging alongside Old Glory.

Forget the fact that Palestine is not a country or a state, and no, being declared so by one or two UN bodies does not make you one, and thus it would be illogical to hang it in conjunction with the Israeli flag anywhere, let alone in the Knesset.

The more frustrating issue is that the PA has done absolutely nothing to warrant the respect of their flag being flown in the governmental home of the Jewish State.

Despite what the mainstream media has chosen to report, the Palestinian Authority has done nothing but call for, and work towards, the eradication of the State of Israel and the slaughter of the Jewish people. Mahmoud Abbas was the deputy of PLO President and arch-terrorist Yasser Arafat and changing the militant party’s name to from ‘The Palestine Liberation Organization’ to ‘The Palestinian Authority’ does nothing to wipe the gallons upon gallons of innocent Jewish blood off their hands. The PLO as well as the PA, has been a steadfast proponent of indiscriminate terror attacks against innocent Israeli civilians since its inception. Arafat adopted the flag, which has existed since 1964, while calling to drive Israel into the sea.

It is interesting to note that Arafat was the nephew of the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin al-Husayni, who first submitted a draft declaration of German-Arab cooperation to the Nazi government in 1941, which contained the clause: “Germany and Italy recognize the right of the Arab countries to solve the question of the Jewish elements,” later to be infamously known as “The Final Solution”. In November of that same year he met with Adolph Hitler (may his name be obliterated), and pledged his full support to the mission of eradicating the world of the Jewish people.

Since that time, uncle’s favorite little nephew, Yasser, as well as his deputy, Abbas, have ruled the ‘Palestinian people’ with an iron fist while blaming it on Israel, rejected any and all peace offers presented to them by Israel, and orchestrated and celebrated the murders of Jews, Christians and Arabs alike. They celebrate the butchers who have killed innocent men, women and children by calling them martyrs and naming events, streets and stadiums after them in Ramallah, Judea and Samaria.

They tell the Western world what they want to here in English and then turn around and contradict it, with gusto, to their own people in Arabic, which is why even when Muhammad Madani, a former Palestinian parliament member whom Abbas appointed to head a new Palestinian Committee for Interaction with Israeli Society told Israeli Ministers “It is logical that since you put up a Palestinian flag when we came here that when you come to our parliament, there will be an Israeli flag,” it should be believed by no one. In fact, the PA has already begun to backtrack on that statement when veteran Palestinian journalist Elias Zananiri, who is also on the committee that Abbas appointed, said in that very same session, “for us, it’s a flag of occupation, so it would be hard to believe that an Israeli flag will fly in Ramallah in two or three weeks when you come.”

Just this very past week, as the renewed ‘peace talks’ were set to begin the PA proved even more so how unworthy they were of Israel’s respect.

First, came the report that Dr. Mohammad Shtayyeh, who along with chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat, is in Washington for the talks, had posted a number of troubling posts and pictures on his Facebook page right before the talks were to commence. According to Trending Central, “his Facebook background image reveals his aspirations for a Palestinian state that incorporates the entirety of Israel, the West Bank and Gaza. The word ‘Filastin’ (Palestine) can be seen emblazoned across the entirety of Israel, the West Bank and Gaza.”

Additionally, after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made the idiotic decision to release 104 Palestinian prisoners, many with blood on their hands, just for a chance to get Abbas and his cronies back to the negotiating table, Abbas gave a speech to Egyptian TV, where, once again, his Arabic gave away his true feelings. Abbas told interim Egyptian President Adli Mansour as well as the Egyptian media that, “in a final resolution, we would not see the presence of a single Israeli – civilian or soldier – on our lands.” Abbas was simply following in the footsteps of his predecessor’s uncle, who devoted his life to helping Hitler make the world “Judenrein”, or “free of Jews”. This horrendous display of intolerance has been met by Israel with the hanging of Abbas’s flag in their home base.

Taking Rabbi Kook’s interpretation, this would be tantamount to the United States flying a flag emblazoned with the face of Osama bin Laden if he were to have strolled onto Pennsylvania Avenue in late September of 2001.

In July of this year 19 brave Arizona firefighters perished in “the worst U.S. wildland firefighting tragedy in 80 years” according to Reuters. The Arizona Diamondbacks, the Phoenix-based Major League Baseball team, aside from wearing a number 19 patch on their uniforms and having the number 19 painted into the grass behind home plate, had not only a uniform with one of the deceased hero’s names on the back of it with the number 19 hanging in their dugout for weeks following the tragedy but asked that the opposing team hang a similar uniform in their dugout as well.

The firefighters died so others could live and have earned the eternal respect of the world. The Palestinians, Abbas included, send their people to die so that others, including women and children, can die along with them, which should earn them nothing but scorn, severe repercussions and international condemnation.

Instead, the UN has upgraded their status, the US has rolled out the red carpet and pressured the Israelis to give them everything they ask for and Israel has FLOWN THEIR FLAG IN THEIR VERY OWN PARLIAMENT.

There is something absolutely sickening about this whole ordeal. Whoever made the decision to allow that disgraceful rag, which just recently flew alongside a Swastika above the Gush Etzion bloc, should be fired immediately and the Israeli government should reinstitute the ban moronically lifted by Former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin during the Oslo accords, on the flag being flown anywhere in Israel, Judea or Samaria. The Palestinians haven’t earned that respect and Israel should have more respect for itself.
