The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) arrested a Palestinian on Sunday evening, who appeared to have made an attempt with another suspect, both of whom posed as Israeli soldiers, to enter the Jewish town of Itamar in northern Samaria.

“The IDF identified two suspects wearing uniforms who tried to infiltrate the settlement of Itamar in the area of the Samaria Regional Brigade,” the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit had stated.

“One of the suspects was caught, and IDF forces are searching for the other suspect in the area.”

The suspect who was arrested is currently being interrogated to determine if his motive was to carry out an ordinary crime or a terrorist attack. IDF troops who searched for the second suspect in the nearby Palestinian town of Beit Faruk faced rioting Palestinians who threw stones in their direction.

On Monday morning, the IDF revealed its subsequent discovery of six Molotov cocktails just outside of Itamar.

Following the thwarting of an infiltration attempt last night near the settlement of Itamar, which falls under the control of the Samaria Regional Brigade, and during an IDF search of the area overnight, six Molotov cocktails were found near the location where the suspects were seen,” the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit stated on Monday.

Chairman of the Samaria Regional Council, Yossi Dagan also released a statement in which he conveyed the resolve of local Jewish residents.

“We in Itamar and in all of Samaria are strong,” he stressed. “We do not surrender, we will not break and we will not fold. Samaria is growing despite the threats.”
