Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman praised security forces Tuesday for the killing of Ahmad Nasser Jarar, a resident of Jenin who is believed to have played a role in the January 9 murder of Rabbi Raziel Shevach near Havat Gilad.

“We have settled the score,” Liberman said in a statement. “It was clear that it was only a matter of time until we got to the head of the cell that murdered Rabbi Shevach. I hope and believe that we will also soon have our hands on the killer of Rabbi Itamar Ben-Gal.”

“Let all terrorists who try to harm the citizens of this country that our security forces will find you and settle the score with you,” added Yesh Atid Party Chairman Yair Lapid.

In a statement, the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) said that efforts to find Jarar began immediately following the attack on Rabbi Shevach and included both intelligence and operational units of the IDF and Israel Police. They said security forces opened fire when Jarar exited a building in the village of Al-Yamun, in northern Samaria, in which he had been hiding and was subsequently found to have been carrying an M-16 rifle and a bag filled with improvised explosive devices.

The operation to apprehend Jarrar followed a 12-hour operation in the Jenin refugee camp on January 17 in which two IDF soldiers were wounded while searching for Raziel’s killers. One Palestinian operative was killed and two arrested.

The Shin Bet added that interrogations of detainees has confirmed that the terror cell headed by Jarar had planned and attempted additional terror attacks.

No injuries to Israeli forces were reported.
