Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and said, “Behold, we are your bone and flesh. In times past, when Saul was king over us, it was you who led out and brought in Israel. And the Lord said to you, ‘You shall be shepherd of my people Israel, and you shall be prince over Israel.’” So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and King David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord, and they anointed David king over Israel. (2 Samuel 5:1-16)
An IDF soldier on patrol near to Hebron’s Cave of the Patriarchs was lightly wounded Monday morning following a stabbing attack by a Palestinian assailant.
In a statement, the IDF confirmed the incident saying that both wounded soldier and that additional forces at the scene had responded with live fire.
It’s believed the terrorist, who was carrying what looked like a pair of pruning scissors, lunged at a group of soldiers standing between the Avraham Avinu neighborhood and the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron.
“After being stabbed, the soldier, along with other troops nearby, shot and neutralized the terrorist, preventing him from stabbing anyone else,” it said.
The terrorist was killed in the incident. The soldier is in stable condition.
This is the fourth stabbing attack to take place in the last two weeks.
Last week, a Palestinian terrorist was shot and killed during an attempted stabbing attack at the Gitai Avishar Junction in northern Samaria.
At the time the IDF said that “a Palestinian attempted to stab a soldier at a bus stop. Our troops fired at him and he was killed. There were no casualties among our forces.”
The week before, a 32-year-old IDF reservist soldier and a young woman were injured in a terrorist attack next to a bus stop outside of Nablus.
Earlier that same week, a Palestinian shot and killed two Israelis at the Barkan industrial area on Sunday. In that case as well, the assailant was able to escape the scene without being caught. The IDF is still on a manhunt to find the terrorist responsible.
