As the delicate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas and other militant Islamists in the Gaza Strip appeared to be holding, an unprovoked stabbing attack at a police station in a southern Jerusalem neighborhood took place.

According to the police report the attack took place at the entrance of the Oz Police Station in the Armon Hanatziv neighborhood. The terrorist apparently approached a 50-year-old border policeman who stood at the compound’s gates and attacked him, causing light wounds to his head.

A border policewoman standing nearby came to her colleagues aid, drawing her weapon and shooting the terrorist. The assailant, a man in his 20’s was neutralized, although not killed. He was subsequently transferred to Shaarei Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem where he is said to be in a serious condition.

Several other officers also required medical treatment as a result of minor injuries sustained during the struggle with the terrorist.

Magen David Adom (MDA) paramedic Elad Fass said, “When we arrived at the scene, we saw three men fully conscious inside the building, suffering only minor injuries. We gave them initial medical treatment and evacuated them to the hospital. They were fully conscious and in stable condition.”

One policeman, who sustained a gunshot wound to his arm, remained in hospital and underwent surgeon.

There has been a spate of recent stabbings and attempted stabbings, including last week, when two IDF soldiers foiled two attempts in the West Bank. One attempt occurred in Kiryat Arba and the following day near Kfar Adumim. Terrorists attempted to stab soldiers but were neutralized before they could successfully carry out their plans.
