NY Times Accuses Trump of Forgetting About Migrant Caravan

The New York Times accused President Trump of forgetting about the immigrant caravan now that midterms are over, suggesting that the president’s warnings about the caravan were entirely political.

Because it didn’t fit the narrative that the president is no longer concerned about the caravan and its risk of incursions on national sovereignty, the Times dismissed the announcement of a major presidential proclamation to combat the problem.

“[A]nalysts, historians and veterans of previous administrations said there were few comparable instances of a commander in chief warning about what he called a looming threat, only to drop it as soon as people voted,” wrote New York Times reporters Maggie Haberman and Mark Landler. “As pure political calculation, analysts from both parties said that seizing on the caravan mobilized Republican voters, dramatizing immigration in a way that resonated with Mr. Trump’s political base.”

Despite the Times’ assertion, Trump took swift and significant action after the election last week to address illegal immigration and asylum abuse. Following the midterm elections, Trump took action to ensure there are consequences for illegal border crossings, including for those in the caravan, by signing a proclamation declaring that those seeking asylum must present themselves lawfully at a port of entry. When paired with a rule issued by DOJ and DHS, aliens in the caravan who illegally enter our country will not be able to claim asylum as a free pass.

While the much of the mainstream media sought to dismiss the caravan altogether, Trump rightly warned about the growing crisis on our Southern border. While the mainstream media continually wrote off the caravan, Trump’s warnings about the impending incursion of our border have proved true; last night, the first wave of the caravan arrived and began to climb the United States border wall outside of Tijuana, Mexico.
