Syria Accuses Israel of Firing Missiles Twice Over Weekend

Syria accused Israel of two attacks inside in less than 24 hours but, as usual, Israel refuses to comment.

The Syrian news agency SANA quoted an unnamed military official as saying that that on Friday night, Syrian air defenses reacted to “hostile targets” coming from the direction of the Quenitra region on the edge of the Israeli Golan Heights, claiming that Syrian air defenses shot down several projectiles. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported three explosions southwest of Damascus but it was not clear if the explosions were caused by the airstrikes or Syrian surface-to-surface missiles.

The SOHR chief, Rami Abdurrahman, told the Associated Press that the strikes targeted the area of Kiswa where there are storage sites for Iranian and Lebanon’s Hezbollah forces allied with Syria’s government.

SANA reported a similar strike on Saturday night, saying the Syrian military intercepted “hostile targets coming from the direction of the occupied territories.” The SOHR reported at least three missiles with two targeting a Syrian army brigade which supervises the country’s Quneitra province while the third missile was destroyed by Syrian air defenses.

Israel has a policy of not commenting on military activity outside of their borders.
