Trump Proves to be More Pro-Israel than Netanyahu Himself

A few months ago, US President Trump turned down a request by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to transfer US aid to the Palestinian Authority security forces, reported Channel 13’s Barak Ravid in Axios.

The report claims that while Washington has gradually cut all of its funding to the PA over the past two years – with the blessing of Israel – approximately 6 months ago, the State Department found that $12 million in US aid to the PA security forces was not cut, although it wasn’t transferred either.

Israeli officials asked that the State Department transfer the funds to PA security forces claiming that they “work hand in hand” with the Israeli government in Judea and Samaria. But since it is Trump’s stated policy to cut funding to the PA, this type of decision would need to be approved by Trump himself.

When Israel’s American counterparts brought the issue to Trump, the president rejected the request, explaining that the policy was to cut aid to the PA so long as they refused to engage with the Trump’s administration.

According to the report, the officials then told Trump that the issue was “very important for Netanyahu,” The president reportedly responded: “If it is that important to Netanyahu he should pay the Palestinians $12 million.”

Netanyahu’s request that Trump transfer aid to the Palestinian Authority is rather odd since Netanyahu himself has repeatedly blamed the PA for terror attacks throughout Israel. Additionally, PA chairman Abbas pays convicted terrorists one of the highest public sector salaries and has sworn to continue paying those martyrs “even if he has only one penny left.” Abbas has also threatened to invade Jerusalem with “a million martyrs.” In other words, Netanyahu wanted to aid Israel’s enemies but Trump wouldn’t let him.

According to the report, the money was never transferred.
