Several hours before the ceasefire between Israel and Gaza went into effect, Israel fired a missile at a building in the Deir al-Balah village, killing Rasmi Abu Malhus, commander of the mortar unit in the Islamic Jihad’s central division reports the Jewish Press. The Gaza health minister reports that seven family members were reportedly also killed while 12 were wounded.

Before midnight on Wednesday, the IDF spokesperson released a statement saying: “A short time ago, IDF fighter jets and aircraft attacked several terrorist targets of the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization in the Gaza Strip. Among the terrorist targets were a war room used by the terrorist organization in Khan Yunis, which initiates routine and emergency activities, and which also serves as a military compound of the terrorist organization in Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip.”

Around the same time, an IDF navy vessel hit an Islamic Jihad military training compound which doubled as a weapons warehouse.

Ma’an News reported that “Egyptian intelligence reached a truce agreement approved by Islamic Jihad and the occupying power, which came into effect at 5:30 AM Thursday. Islamic Jihad spokesman Mussab al-Braim confirmed the deal had been reached. The agreement stipulates that Israel will agree to the terms of the Islamic Jihad movement, most notably the cessation of assassinations as well as a ceasefire regarding the demonstrators of the marches of return, which must be kept peaceful.”

But after only four hours, Gaza broke the ceasefire with at least five rockets fired into Israel.

Israel increased the frequency of its strikes and expanded the type of targets, as IAF fighter jets reportedly attacked 10 Islamic Jihad rocket launching teams as the mortars were being launched, killing at least 20.

These precision strikes were executed in collaboration between the Southern Command, the Air Force and the IDF Intelligence Unit. They have reportedly limited the Islamic Jihad’s capabilities to fire rockets at Israeli civilians.

Since Baha Abu al-Atta’s assassination on Tuesday morning, Israel killed 32 terrorists, with the majority of them being members of the Islamic Jihad. Approximately 100 have been wounded. 360 rockets have fallen onto Israeli soil.
