What Lies Behind The Headlines: Are We Living in Messianic Times?

While much of the world reads headlines and understands them on the level of current events, Jewish wisdom teaches that there is a deep, spiritual reality behind everything in the material world.

Recently, Tamar Yonah, host of The Tamar Yonah Show on Israel News Talk Radio interviewed Rabbi Lazer Brody, a former IDF combat soldier and military chaplain. Brody now works as a spiritual guide and life coach The two spoke about how what’s happening in the headlines today are a reflection of deeper Torah principles.

At the opening of the interview, Yonah asked Brody, “How do we understand the fact that Israel is scheduled to go to third elections in the ‘template of Jewish history?’”

Brody emphasized that everything going on with the elections is in the Hands of Hashem (God).

On the issue of whether or not Israel is facing war, Brody said it totally “depends on us [the Jewish people]. We have to make a peace treaty, not with Hamas and not with Jordan, not with Egypt, not with Lebanon, not with Syria.

“We have to make a peace treaty with the Almighty, because we have been going against His laws in this Land. When a government does this, and sanctions this on a national scale, that’s when we get into big trouble.”

Brody explained that the “template of Jewish history” operates in such a way that, “When the Almighty [has a] message, the volume gets turned up a little bit louder, a little bit louder.

“If you noticed, the Intifada started with rocks. The rocks turned into knives. The knives turned into pistols. The pistols turned into grenades. The grenades turned into bombs on buses. The bombs on buses turned into kassam rockets. The kassam rockets turned into katyusha rockets. The katyusha rockets turned into Scud missiles.”

Brody asserted that the escalation is not coincidental. “It’s getting louder and louder and flouder,” he explained, in an attempt to get our attention.

On a national level, Brody emphasized that it’s crucial for Israel’s leaders, “to understand why we’re here [in the Land].” He asked everyone to consider “the last passage in Psalm 105 which reminds us that we’re here to observe Hashem’s laws.”

He led His people out in gladness, His chosen ones with joyous song. that they might keep His laws and observe His teachings. Hallelujah. Psalms 105:44-45.

“We’re having a spiritual wake up call right now and you can see the clouds of war gathering around us and around us and around us. There’s an Iranian noose closing around the Land of Israel.

“It doesn’t depend on Iran. It depends on us, but people don’t realize it. It’s almost frustrating. I say listen. Just open your eyes, see what’s happening.

“You have to look at the whole picture of Jewish history and spiritual Jewish history and ask, ‘What does the Almighty want from us in the Land of Israel?’”

He strongly asserted that the government of Israel should not sanction things that go against the Torah and cites “the public desecration of the Sabbath” as an example.

“On the individual level,” Brody claimed, “all the Almighty asks for is your heart. Open up your eyes and ask, ‘Who operates your heart? Who operates your lungs? A little bit of faith – emunah. That’s all. That’s all.

“Get to know the Almighty, even if you weren’t born in it.”

Speaking specifically of the messianic era, Brody taught that, “The way to hasten the coming of Messiah..  is to observe Hashem’s laws, especially Hashem’s laws in the Land of Israel. You have to understand that the Land of Israel is the King’s palace… Therefore we need a government with impeccably upright leaders.”

He concluded by emphasizing the importance of Jewish unity in the Land of Israel. “When we, the people of Israel are one, there is no enemy on the face of the earth that can touch the hair on an Israeli head.

“Let us all remember, especially in the Land of Israel, this one commandment in the Torah.

You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against your countrymen. Love your fellow as yourself: I am Hashem. Leviticus 19:18

“Let’s take it upon ourselves to do our best and I promise you, if we all do this in the Land of Israel, you’re going to see good,” he concluded.
