Purim Parades in Israel Cancelled due to Coronavirus Fears: But you can Still Bring Joy to Their Faces

Anyone who has been to Israel during Purim is familiar with the famous Purim street parades. These iconic processions bring a true festive spirit to the streets of Israel as exhibitionists entertain the crowds, floats are donned with artistic performances and of course – creative costumes.

These holiday parades draw massive crowds, especially children.

But unfortunately, this year, for the first time in Israel’s history, those children won’t be able to attend the parade…In fact, no one will.

Israel’s Health Ministry put new restrictions in place preventing mass gatherings due to fears surrounding the coronavirus, This includes soccer games, concerts and yes – the much-anticipated Purim Parades.

More than anyone, this development affects Israel’s children in Israel living under the poverty line. That’s because although many of their parents cannot afford to take them to fun activities that the other kids go to, the annual Purim Parades were always free.

But thanks to an amazing organization called Colel Chabad, you have the opportunity to raise their spirits.

That’s because although many people think that Purim is all about costumes, the truth is that it’s about so much more. In fact, the holiday of Esther involves actual commandments such as a festive Purim meal (seudat Purim), Matanot L’evyonim (charity), and Mishloach Manot.

Mishloach Manot, translated as ‘sending gifts of food’, is the commandment to give two separate foods, which are ready to eat, to at least one person on Purim day. Mordechai, one of the Purim heroes, instituted the practice of Mishloach Manot as is quoted in the Book of Esther:

That is why village Yehudim, who live in unwalled towns, observe the fourteenth day of the month of Adar and make it a day of merrymaking and feasting, and as a holiday and an occasion for sending gifts to one another. (Esther 9:19)

And the good people at Colel Chabad are offering you the opportunity to give an Israeli child the food he needs this holiday with customized Mishloach Manot baskets.

Colel Chabad also offers a festive Purim meal as is commanded as well. Those delectable warm meals are even delivered to the homes of those who need it.

But wait, there’s more. That’s because this saintly organization also provides Matanot L’evyonim (charity) – another commandment on the holiday of Purim, Colel Chabad gives these impoverished families a much-needed chunk of cash that they can then spend on basic necessities in addition to providing essential food items.

In the northern city of Safed alone, hundreds of widows and their children living below the poverty line rely on Colel Chabad for their sustenance during the holiday.

This means that now can be your chance to take part in the Purim holiday in Israel and feed a hungry child who wants nothing more than to celebrate the holiday of Purim just like every other kid in the Jewish state does.

And you can do that by making a contribution to Colel Chabad. The money you contribute will go towards the Purim Feast, the mishloach manot, or a cash gift to the needy – all highly important destinations.

Every kid in Israel deserves a Happy Purim. By donating to Colel Chabad today, you can make that happen.
