His Death Certificate said ‘Coronavirus’: a Cryptic Note Found in his Pocket said Otherwise

A well-known rabbi from London,  Rabbi Avrohom Pinter, z”l, of Stamford Hill, died last week from the COVID-19 virus…Or did he?

After testing positive for the novel coronavirus, Rabbi Pinter was subsequently hospitalized. and then tragically died. And although his official cause of death was listed as ‘COVID-19’, a note was reportedly recovered from his pocket post-mortem revealing that he in fact died of ‘starvation’ in the hospital.

The note, written for his son in Yiddish stated “Know that if I die, it isn’t because of coronavirus but rather starvation.”

Rabbi Pinter was a principal of religious School. According to Hamodai, “He always had a smile, a story and a vort to share and had the gift of making everyone feel like they were his best friend.”

England’s chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis wrote: “I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Rabbi Avraham Pinter z”l. Rabbi Pinter was known to many as a tireless representative of the Jewish community in Stamford Hill… I will remember him as an eved Hashem with a kind heart and an unwavering commitment to his community. His loss will be widely felt across Anglo Jewry and beyond. Yehi zichro baruch.”
