While the deadly Ebola virus has so far not reached Israel, local authorities are taking precautions and preparing for all possible outbreak scenarios.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened a special meeting this week with top governmental, military and health officials to discuss all possible actions to be taken in case Ebola is discovered in Israel.

The meeting was attended by Health Minister Yael German, Deputy Interior Minister Faina Kirshenbaum, Transportation and Road Safety Minister Yisrael Katz, and representatives from the IDF, Foreign Ministry and Israel Police.

Health Ministry officials presented an overview of the global situation regarding Ebola. They explained how the current strain of Ebola is not transmitted through food, air or water.

Thus far, the countries with the highest risk of infection are Guinea, Liberia, Siera Leone and Western Africa.

Officials decided it would impose stricter screening processes to help identify people entering Israel from high-risk countries. The Foreign Ministry and Health Ministry are urging Israelis to avoid all travel to these countries.

Earlier this week, the Foreign Ministry announced that it will be sending three mobile emergency clinics to Ebola stricken region.

The decision was passed after several requests by the World Health Organization, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, and numerous Israeli and international aid organizations.
