Christians Look to Torah Portion to Prove Solar Eclipse is the “Shadow of God”

For centuries, the weekly Torah portion was the exclusive domain of the Jewish people. However, non-Jews have recently started to look into the Torah portion for instruction and meaning as well.

Prominent Christian leaders told Breaking Israel News they have found connections to the upcoming solar eclipse in Saturday’s Torah portion and its modern day implications.

“The time has come when non-Jews are realizing they have been taught lies. Why would people want a counterfeit when there is an original? We study the Torah portions to connect with the Jews all over world and because we believe the Torah is still relevant today,” Pastor Mark Biltz, the bestselling author of “Blood Moons,” told Breaking Israel News. “I bring in commentaries by Rashi, Rambam, Ramban and others because of the incredible insights. Non-Jews are discovering what they have missed by not studying in context.”

“I have always heard from my Israeli Jewish friends how the Torah portion has been shown over and over again to be relevant to current events in Israel,”  explained Bob O’Dell, co-founder of Root-Source, “and now I am starting to see it for myself.”

O’Dell, a student of astronomy for the last 35 years, discovered this upcoming Friday’s exceedingly rare North Pole eclipse, as first reported by Breaking Israel News.

The total solar eclipse will take place over the North Pole on Friday, March 20, coinciding with the beginning of the Hebrew month of Nissan, the first month in the Biblical calendar year. The particular timing of Friday’s solar occurrence has never happened before in human history.

O’Dell is utilizing his knowledge of astronomy and insight into the Bible to teach an online course on the Blood Moons, which can be found exclusively on Root Source, an online platform where Christians can learn about their Jewish roots. Root Source created a free eBook, “Blood Moons 101,” which has been download thousands of times since its publication just a few days ago.

Biltz also sees a direct connection to this Friday’s solar eclipse and Saturday’s Torah portion. “This weekend, all over the world, in every synagogue, the Torah portion that was read described the construction of the Tabernacle and the Glory of God descending from heaven,” he explained.

“Not only that, but this coming week historically, is the very day the dedication of the Tabernacle happened on the first of Nisan that was just read about in the Torah portion. This year, the first of Nissan begins at sundown on Friday, March 20. Amazingly, there is also a total Solar eclipse that same day. A total solar eclipse speaks of judgment coming on the nations. This is followed two weeks later by a total lunar eclipse or Blood Moon on Passover,” said Biltz.

The weekend Torah portion read by millions of Jews around the world describes the Tabernacle dedicated on the first of Nissan designed by master craftsman Bezalel. According to Gidon Ariel, Orthodox Jew and co-founder of Root Source, the connection to Friday’s solar eclipse runs even deeper.

“The Torah portion describes God choosing the chief architect Bezalel: ‘And Moses said to the Children of Israel, ‘See, God has proclaimed by name Bezalel.’” What’s amazing is that, in Hebrew, the name Bezalel literally means ‘in the shadow of God,’” Ariel told Breaking Israel News.

The connection between the Torah portion and this week’s solar eclipse is clear to O’Dell. “It just goes to show how much higher are His ways than ours. God is truly incredible and the ultimate hero of every story.”

“I can say with confidence now that God is the author of this week’s total Solar Eclipse at the North pole. Before hearing about the Torah portion I believed it was ‘likely’ that this was the hand of God. But this week’s Torah portion seals the deal for me. The solar eclipse is the shadow of God. One hundred percent God,” he said.

Pastor Keith Johnson, founder of Biblical Foundations Academy International, told Breaking Israel News that Christians are just now beginning to awaken to studying the Torah according to the same portions Jews study each week. “Just in the last seven years, Christians are starting to hear of the Torah portions and their implications are being brought to the forefront,” he said.

“The Torah is being brought to the nations and the nations are being awakened to the word of God,” Johnson explained. “The Torah is the written word of the almighty and people have seemed to just have passed it by.”

While Christians are finding new insights every day by studying the Torah portions, some Jews see this as more than a trivial curiosity, but as a historic or prophetic phenomenon. Ariel believes that the Christian fascination with the Blood Moons is particularly instructive and a lesson God is using to teach the Jews.

“In Jewish tradition, the Jewish people are likened to the moon, and the nations of the world to the sun,” explained Ariel. “I think that the tremendous interest in the current eclipses and Blood Moons emphasize the relationship between these two celestial bodies and, in turn, the relationship between the Jewish people and the nations of the world.”

The sign of the Blood Moon and solar eclipse are, for Ariel, a sign of greater things to come between Jews and Christians. “In our generation, we are noticing an outpouring of teshuva (repentance) on the part of many righteous Christians, recognition of the historical crimes perpetrated by Christians against Jews, and attempts to right those wrongs.”

“This year’s Blood Moon phenomena is perhaps a message from God to the Jewish People to recognize the sincerity of the outreach in friendship by Christians and to work together to bring about the expansion of the knowledge of God amongst Jews, Christians, and all people worldwide.”
