Karmey Chesed and the Gush Katif Museum have teamed up to send tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of funds and supplies to terror victims and others in need over the past month.  The two organizations have been working together for over six years. “The partnership is very successful,” Shai Gefen, Director of the Gush Katif Museum, told Breaking Israel News. “Karmey Chesed helps us out incredibly,” he added.

Karmey Chesed works around the clock to provide for needy families all over Israel. In past events, Karmey Chesed has handed out much-needed clothing, food, furniture and financial assistance to families in need. These events are varied and answer the needs of all segments of the population.

The organization focuses on helping families in want pick themselves up and get a step ahead in life. “Families who are in need get whatever assistance we can give them,” explained Gefen, “and they get it with a smile.”

Last month, the organization gave over $10,000 to the Gush Katif victims’ fund. “Every single request that we have asked for on behalf of the Gush Katif evacuees, they have answered,” said Gefen enthusiastically. “They have answered so many families, and so many families still need it. We have literally helped hundreds of families to provide for their children.”

He went on to emphasize the special nature of Karmey Chesed. “We are talking here about charity and giving of a type that is incredibly unique,” he told Breaking Israel News. “You not only help, but you help hundreds of people. The amount alone is simply astonishing. People who have literally nothing, receive entire house-loads of supplies.”

Gefen continued, “For these families it is not only important to give them what they need but to give them in a way that is above and beyond and with a smile. Karmey Chesed gives to them with caring and love. To give with love, that, I think, is the uniqueness of Karmey Chesed and of Aryeh Weingarten, and it has proven itself over and over again.”

He mentioned that Karmey Chesed was also able to assist people in need during the recent holiday season, which can be financially difficult for some households. “With Weingarten’s help, we were able to assist hundreds of families over the holidays,” Gefen recounted.

The money is being handed out via the Charitable Organization of the Gush Katif Museum. The museum, which will undergo a re-opening over Chanukah, will be inaugurating a second floor. Today, the museum stands as a tribute to the work and lives of those that lived in Gush Katif.

Gefen noted that the two organizations have recently expanded their work to include terror victims, a field in which Karmey Chesed has been working in for some time. “We are no longer limiting ourselves to just people expelled from Gush Katif,” said Gefen.
