Terror Wave Sharpens the Need of Israel’s Poor

In the face of ongoing and escalating terror in Judea and Samaria, Karmey Chesed is reaching out to help those who have been hardest hit financially.

As terror rises across the country, it has become much harder, especially for those who entered into this recent wave of terror in financial hardships, to continue to support themselves and their families. Aryeh Weingarten, Director of Karmey Chesed charity organization, has been travelling to different communities around Judea and Samaria to provide financial support and a bit of relief where it is needed most.

“When you have a store and people are afraid to go to your store because of the security situation, you lose a lot of income. However, your debts are still there. Those don’t go away or take a break,” he told Breaking Israel News. “The whole situation is much harder for those in need. They need to continue to make payments and continue to try to gather enough finances as they normally would, in a situation in which that is almost impossible to do.”

Weingarten explained some of the trials that he has faced in his travels. “The Palestinians have taken to breaking car windshields, pouring oil on the streets, throwing stones at moving as well as stopped vehicles, and due to all this, people are afraid to go out.”

“My own daughters are afraid to go outside, and instead shut themselves in whenever I leave the house,” he related.

Weingarten himself lives in the town of Beitar Illit, the second largest Jewish city in Judea. He told a harrowing story that occurred to a neighbor of his. “A little boy who lives on the same street, woke up one morning to find a Palestinian man robbing his house,” he said.

“Left-wing protesters bring Palestinians right up to the fence outside of Beitar and protest there every Friday. They throw rocks and stones at the people living here, and recently the Palestinians have taken to throwing firebombs,” continued Wiengarten. “Is it any wonder that children here are afraid?”

As more and more people in Judea and Samaria fear to leave their homes, and shop owners begin to flounder, Karmey Chesed has begun to deliver money as well as much-needed household items to people in need across Judea and Samaria. Currently the communities which they have helped include Beitar Illit, Eleazar, Efrat, Karnei Shomeron and Bat Ayin.

“These are not simple times,” said Weingarten, who was travelling to help another person in one of these communities as he spoke to Breaking Israel News. “We need to stand up in the face of this violence, and bring what little relief we can to the people who are hurt the most financially by the terror.”
Karmey Chesed has made it its mission to help the needy of Israel no matter where they are. The organization works with soldiers, terror victims, farmers, Gush Katif expellees, and children from across the country.
