Gabriel Baredes, director of Hispanic Affairs for the Consulate General of Israel to Florida and Puerto Rico, recently attended a Jewish and Christian leaders’ get-together to discuss peace in the Middle East and the relationship between both local communities, the SunSentinel reported.

Baredes praised the program, “Christian-Jewish Dialogue: Making the World Better Together,” which included a panel discussion between rabbis and pastors and a special Ladino concert featuring Israeli performers Dan Nadel and Lianne Aharony. Baredes said, “For us, this is the beginning of a huge future, showing that together through the culture and friendship, we can make a better future with peace and friendship and pull the communities together.”

Susan Michael, USA director for the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem, said she was grateful for the fact that the State of Israel existed, so Jews and Christians could come together that evening.

Hadassah international and Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, along with the Consulate General of Israel to Florida and Puerto Rico and the Women’s International Zionist Organization (WIZO), presented this Spanish-speaking interfaith program at Beth Torah Benny Rok Campus in North Miami Beach, in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month.

Deputy consul general of Israel to Florida and Puerto Rico Revital Malca said: “We want to reach out to the public and get both communities – Christians and Jews – more familiar with one another.”

According to the SunSentinel, Dr. Carlos Ibarra, an anesthesiologist at Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem, who has seen a lot of pain and suffering at his job, being involved in operations on terror victims and injured soldiers of all faiths, told his audience he still believes “that peace is possible. That’s my experience and that’s what I have to testify,” he said. “You hear a lot about the conflict, but not a lot about this somewhat rare oasis of peace and co-existence of people.”

Rabbi Mario Rojzman of Beth Torah, Rabbi Hector Epelbaum of Temple Beth Israel in Sunrise, Pastor Mario Bramnick—founder/president of Broward Pastors Network, and Pastor Alberto Delgado of Alpha & Omega Church in Miami participated in a panel discussion moderated by Pastor Carlos Ortiz, president/founder of Hispanics Allied for Israel.
