Two people were injured in a stabbing attack near Jerusalem’s famous Machne Yehudah outdoor market on Monday morning.

According to Police, two Palestinian females slashed people near the busy market with scissors before being shot.

One of the victims, a 27-year-old security guard, was lightly injured by flying shrapnel from gunfire against the attackers. The second victim, a 70-year-old Palestinian from Bethlehem, sustained wounds to his upper body. Both were evacuated to local hospitals.

The terrorists, who police said were 14 and 16 years old, hailed from northern Jerusalem and were related. A police spokesperson confirmed that the 16-year-old died at the scene of the attack and the 14-year-old remains in police custody while she receives treatment at an Israeli hospital.

One video captured on camera an Israeli policeman, armed with a gun, rushing towards the terrorists with a purple barber’s cape flying behind him. The policeman was in the middle of a haircut when, upon hearing the commotion, he rushed out to apprehend the terrorists.

The scene of the attack is located in one of Israel’s most busy shopping areas in downtown Jerusalem. The city’s light rail, which runs on Jaffa Street where the attack occurred, was briefly shut down.

Monday morning’s attack is the first stabbing in Jerusalem in almost two weeks. On Sunday, government ministers approved a new law allowing terrorists under 14 years of age to be charged and prosecuted for their crimes.
