Former Israeli president Shimon Peres is reported to be in stable condition after he was rushed to the hospital following a mild heart attack on Thursday morning. A spokesman said that Peres, 92, is fully conscious and feeling well after undergoing surgery to clear a blocked artery.

The ninth president had woken up with palpitations and chest pains. After a Magen David Adom (MDA) paramedic arrived and administered an EKG test, he decided to take the statesman by ambulance to Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer.

Peres was treated there by his personal physician, Dr. Rafi Walden. Doctors performed an angioplasty, in which a narrowed coronary artery was located and successfully unblocked. Peres, in good spirits, reportedly complained to his staff after they canceled an appearance scheduled for later in the day.

Current heads of state Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Reuven Rivlin both sent Peres wishes for a speedy recovery. On his Facebook page, Rivlin posted a photo of himself and Peres with the caption, “Health, longevity, and a quick recovery for the ninth president, Shimon Peres, a man very active in our country.”
