A delegation from the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Hague arrived in Israel Wednesday for a five-day educational and outreach visit but not to collect evidence for their ongoing war crime probe over the 2014 Gaza War.

The delegation “will not engage in evidence collection in relation to any alleged crimes; neither will the delegation undertake site visits, or assess the adequacy of the respective legal systems to deal with crimes that fall within ICC jurisdiction,” according to a statement by the organization.

Its purpose in visiting is to raise awareness of their office and “address any misconceptions about the ICC.”

The delegation will travel throughout Israel and hold meetings with Israeli and Palestinian officials. They’ll also meet with United Nations agencies and participate in two events at academic institutions.

ICC’s prosecutor Fatou Bensouda opened an investigation into alleged war crimes by both Israel and Palestinians during the 2014 conflict in Gaza.

Bensouda’s office stated the “preliminary examination of the situation is on-going and is following its normal course” but the visit to Israel “is not linked to any findings regarding any issue, nor will any announcement be made in that regard.”
