Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) said Thursday that security forces have arrested 16 Arab citizens of Israel suspected of supporting ISIS. The detainees were arrested during the month of September and are residents of the city of Taybe.

Prior to being arrested members of the group are suspected of trying to set fire to the local soccer stadium in order to prevent a concert scheduled for last months Eid al-Adha holiday. Under questioning, the suspects told Shin Bet interrogators that the arson attempt was inspired by ISIS ideology – that is to say, that they believe that live music is “immoral” and “against Islam”, and violates the principles of the “Islamic State.”

According to the Shin Bet statement, one detainee, Amir Jabara, was arrested in Turkey last April after trying to join ISIS in Syria via the Turkish border. Another, Ibrahim Sheikh Yusuf planned to leave in several months to join the terror group. Investigators said Ibrahim built a pedal-powered glider to leave Israel.

The group is also suspected of planning to smuggle weapons from the Tulkarm area via a tunnel into israel in order to plan for “judgement day”, on which they believe they will have to fight “heretics.” The weapons were to be hidden underneath Ibrahim’s house; activists planned to extend an existing tunnel across the security wall near Taybe. Security forces discovered and investigated the tunnel, which had only been dug for several meters.
