The Cleveland Jews News first reported the dismissal Tuesday night.

Karega, an assistant professor of rhetoric and composition, had made anti-Semitic comments in several Facebook posts during the last few years as a faculty member at Oberlin.

This includes blaming Israeli and American intelligence personal being behind the terror attack on the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, blaming Israel for downing Malaysian Airlines Flight 17 over Ukraine, and voicing support for Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakan’s declaration that Zionist and Israeli Jews were behind the 9/11 attacks.

Karega had also shared anti-Semitic images on Facebook, including a picture of Jewish banking heir Jacob Rothschild with the caption, “We own your news, the media, your oil and your government.”

Following the dismissal, Oberlin released a statement saying that given Karega’s “repeated refusal to acknowledge and remedy her misconduct,” her “continued presence undermines the mission and values of Oberlin’s academic community.”

“Thus, any sanction short of dismissal is insufficient and the Board of Trustees is compelled to take this most serious action,” Oberlin said.
