Leading Republican members of the House of Representatives Tuesday called on President Barack Obama to back down on efforts to bolster the Iran nuclear deal before he leaves office early next year.

Despite Republican opposition, the Obama administration issued licenses to French aircraft producer Airbus to sell 106 commercial planes to Iran, Reuters reported. Earlier this year, the U.S. aerospace company Boeing announced a $25 million sale of commercial planes to Iran. Additionally, the White House is also considering granting waivers to additional U.S. companies to do business in Iran.

“We respectfully request that your administration take no further action that bolsters international investment in Iran,” Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce wrote in a letter to Obama.

The House leaders concluded the letter by saying in a speech Obama “admirably committed to ensuring a smooth transition to the next administration. President-elect Trump deserves the opportunity to assess United States policy toward Iran without your administration imposing or implementing additional measures that could complicate the incoming administration’s ability to develop its policy.”

Under the nuclear agreement, the president can grant waivers to companies to conduct business in Iran and avoid U.S. sanctions.
