Two separate church bombings in Egypt killed at least 29 people and injured dozens more on Palm Sunday. The first took place in the Morning, when bomb went off near a Coptic church in Tanta, a city in Egypt’s Nile Delta, killing at least 26 people.

A second blast went off in the city of Alexandria a few hours later, killing at least six people and wounding 33.

The first blast occurred near the St. George Coptic Church.

The second explosion went off outside of St. Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Cathedral in Alexandria, where the Coptic pope was holding a mass, on Sunday afternoon. Egyptian state media has reported that it was a suicide bombing.

Eleven are reported killed. The office of the pope confirmed that he was unharmed in the blast.

Coptic Christians, who make up about 10 percent of Egypt’s total population, are increasingly marginalized in Egypt as they are targeted by extremists Muslims. In December, 25 Christian worshippers were killed in a terror bombing at Cairo’s Cathedral of St. Mark.
