We are all used to seeing despicable images of burning American flags throughout the capitals of the Mideast. However, there is one country in the region whose citizens proudly wave the stars and stripes. That country is Israel.
In trying to understand why Israelis relate to America differently than all others, I reached out to former Israeli Ambassador to the U.S., Michael Oren. “Other countries in the region don’t wave American flags, they burn them!” Oren, who is now a member of Knesset and deputy minister, told me. “Israel is the only country in the Middle East where the American embassy is in no danger of violent protesters and where it’s not uncommon to see both Israeli and American flags flying together.”
