Bennett: Moving US Embassy to Holy City Is the ‘Right Thing to Do’

Minister of Education Naftali Bennett said at The Jerusalem Post Conference that he supports US President Donald Trump’s expected announcement of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and his declaration that he will move the US embassy to the Holy City. He said it is the right thing to do.

“When you do the right thing, there ought not to be a price,” Bennett said. “We have conditioned ourselves that when the right thing is done, there must be a price and it’s not true.”

Bennett is one of several Israeli politicians, including MK Yair Lapid, that have come out in support of the expected move of the embassy. He called upon other countries to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s undivided capital.

“Israel’s strategic patience has paid off,” said Bennett. “We have been told time and time again to sever pieces of our tiny land to be loved. Our drop in sympathy by the world has happened when we gave up land. The world respects countries that are strong.”

Bennett said the embassy’s move to Jerusalem will not be an impediment to peace.

Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked also said she would support Trump’s announcement of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. She said if Trump does announce he is moving the embassy it will be not only a victory for Israel, but America.

“I can tell you that it is the victory of the American people and the American spirit,” Shaked said. “We are all very excited…I am optimistic.”
