Vice President Mike Pence has once again delayed his visit to the Middle East, including a stop in Israel, citing the upcoming vote in Congress on tax reform.

“The largest tax cut in American history is a landmark accomplishment for President Trump and a relief to millions of hardworking Americans,” said Pence’s press secretary, Alyssa Farah. “The vice president is committed to seeing the tax cut through to the finish line. The vice president looks forward to traveling to Egypt and Israel in January.”

As part of his first official trip to Israel as vice president, Pence was slated to arrive in the Jewish state by Dec. 20 after originally planning to visit the country earlier in December during Hanukkah. He had been slated to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other senior Israeli officials in Jerusalem and was reportedly set to address the Knesset in the first such speech to the Israeli legislature by a senior U.S. official since remarks given by President George W. Bush in 2008.

The vice president was also scheduled to visit with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in Cairo. Pence had planned to meet with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, but Abbas canceled the meeting following the recent U.S. policy changes on Jerusalem.
