Earlier in the day, thousands of Iraquis attended funerals of fighters from the Iranian-backed militias who were killed in U.S. airstrikes two days ago. At least 25 pro-Iranian militia were killed in the airstrikes.
Turkish media has been discussing U.S. bases after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s statement in a Dec. 15 interview that “if it needs to be shut down, we will shut down Incirlik [Airbase]. If it needs to be shut down, we will shut down Kürecik [Radar Station].”
Al-Ghabin, who has written for Israeli newspapers and uses social media to praise Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, supports “direct and unconditional” ties with Israel, calling it “a strategic choice.”
It is believed that the T-4 base is used to store Iranian-made parts for drones and is also used as a transit point for weapons shipments to Hezbollah in Lebanon. It is protected by the Russian S-300 anti-air systems.
