In commemoration of the liquidation of its ghetto in 1944, the Polish city of Łódź, its local Jewish community and the Jerusalem-based Shavei Israel, held a ceremony to mark the occasion.
The Bnei Anousim – descendants of Spanish Jews forced to convert to Catholicism more than 500 years ago – who live in El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala will get a full-time rabbi to serve their spiritual and educational needs. The appointment was made possible due to the efforts of the Jerusalem-based Shavei Israel organization.
Fifteen couples from the Bnei Menashe (Sons of Menashe), who immigrated to Israel from Manipur, India, two months ago, were remarried in a festive ceremony. It was held at the nonprofit NGO Shavei Israel’s absorption center in Kfar Hasidim, following the completion of the couples’ formal conversion.
